Spires, castles, towers standing out against the clouds, figures that seem about to come to life any minute. We’re not talking about the latest Walt Disney movie but about the World Sand Sculptures Championship for Countries taking place every year at Cervia Cervia Beach Park, the big beach stadium placed on the public beach. Forget about works of art made with brushes, colours and clay! Art can also be expressed through sand, provided that the grains are amalgamated with plenty of water and creativity. In Cervia different countries from all over the world come together, discovering the importance of simplicity. As Oscar Wilde put it, simple pleasures are the last resort of complex souls. So, about twenty champions divided into ten twosomes from all over the world meet on the Adriatic coast in a stadium that can host over 2,000 spectators – the only stadium in Italy capable of hosting beach games. Grain by grain they will ‘build’ an unforgettable event. This event – unique for Italy – is part of other important world ‘sand sculptures’ events organized in the U.S. and in the East. Among the participant countries that took part in the previous editions of Cervia's championship: the U.S., Morocco, Spain, Belgium, Russia, Netherlands, India. Italian artists are also well represented.
